Daily Gist

Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 23, 2026

Daily Gist ("we", "us", "our") operates the dailygist.fyi website and service. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information.

Information we collect

  • Account information: your email address, used for authentication and to generate your unique forwarding address.
  • Newsletter content: emails you forward to your Daily Gist address. We use this content solely to generate your podcast episodes.
  • Generated audio: podcast episodes we create from your forwarded newsletters.
  • Payment information: handled entirely by Stripe. We do not store your credit card details.
  • Google account data: if you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email address from Google. We do not access your Google contacts, Drive, Gmail, or any other Google services.

How we use your information

  • To authenticate you and manage your account
  • To process your forwarded newsletters into podcast episodes
  • To deliver episodes via your private RSS feed
  • To process payments through Stripe
  • To send transactional emails (sign-in codes, account updates)

Data retention

We retain your forwarded newsletter content only as long as needed to generate your podcast episodes. Generated audio is retained according to your subscription tier. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time.

Third-party services

We use the following third-party services to operate Daily Gist:

  • Supabase — database and authentication
  • Google AI (Gemini) — podcast transcript and audio generation
  • Stripe — payment processing
  • Postmark — inbound email processing
  • Vercel — hosting

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

Browser extension

The Daily Gist Chrome extension is an optional companion to the web service. It is designed to help you (1) set up Gmail auto-forwarding without leaving Gmail and (2) save web articles into your next podcast episode.

The extension collects and transmits the following data:

  • Authentication token: when you sign in, a bearer token is stored locally via chrome.storage.sync and sent with each request to our API to identify your account. Signing out deletes the token.
  • Saved URLs and page content: when you explicitly choose "Queue for next Daily Gist episode" or "Add to on-demand Daily Gist episode" from the right-click menu, the page's URL, title, and the HTML of the current tab are sent to our servers so the article can be included in your podcast. We send the tab's HTML so that articles behind a login (for example, a paywalled newsletter or a read-it-later service) can be read — our server would otherwise receive only a login page. The HTML is used immediately to extract the article text; only the extracted text, title, and URL are stored. URLs and HTML are never collected passively — only on explicit user action.
  • Newsletter sender list: if you use the extension to manage your Gmail forwarding filter, the list of newsletter sender addresses you've added to the filter is stored on our servers so the extension can show you which senders are currently covered.

When you visit Gmail settings pages, the extension reads the visible DOM to detect whether you've already added your forwarding address and created the forwarding filter. This is used only to guide you through setup. The extension does not read, transmit, or store the contents of your email messages. Newsletter content reaches Daily Gist exclusively through Gmail's built-in forwarding — not through the extension.

When you use the right-click menu to save an article, the extension reads the current tab's DOM once (at the moment you click the menu item) and sends the HTML to our servers so the article text can be extracted. The extension does not read or monitor tabs you haven't explicitly chosen to save, and does not run in the background across your browsing.

We use the data collected by the extension solely to operate the Daily Gist service as described above. We do not sell or transfer this data to third parties, use it for advertising, or use it for any purpose unrelated to the extension's single purpose.

Security

We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS), row-level security on our database, and secure token-based authentication. Newsletter content is never exposed publicly.

You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time by contacting us at support@dailygist.fyi.
